Murrieta Dodgers bring awareness to Down syndrome
When the Murrieta National Little League formed a Challenger League in 2017, Jacquie and Russ Acosta were asked to get involved with the adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges. Russ coaches the Murrieta Dodgers with the help of his assistant coach, Jered Herndon. Jacquie manages the dugout and handles all the communication with parents and families. Many of the team members’ fathers help out on the field as well.This season, there are 11 players, ranging in age from 10 to 18, on the team. While many of them have Down syndrome, there are players with other disabilities and Jacquie Acosta said they all bring something important to the team. The league is open to players age 4 and up, and the amount of players varies each season.October i
