IDYLLWILD (CNS) - A hiker who fell ill today while trekking east of Idyllwild was able to make his way down a trail and obtain help, even as fire crews prepared to mount a rescue operation.The "hiker down'' call was received about 11:40 a.m. somewhere along Devil's Slide Trail, near Humber Park, within the San Bernardino National Forest, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.The agency said that multiple engine crews, a medic squad and a Reach Air helicopter ambulance were sent to the location, but as firefighters began searching the trailhead, witnesses informed them the patient had returned under his own power and left the location, possibly with the assistance of good Samaritans.
