WILDOMAR – The driver responsible for a crash that killed one person in Wildomar today was arrested for allegedly driving under the
influence, authorities said.
The crash occurred at about 3:30 a.m. in the area of Grape and Olive streets near the Temecula Valley (15) Freeway in Wildomar, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The driver allegedly “made an unsafe turning movement onto the right shoulder as it continued southbound towards the underpass.” Once at the underpass, the car “became airborne and impacted the dirt hillside on the south side of Olive Street,” CHP reported.
A male passenger sitting in the right front seat was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The driver — identified as a 34-year-old Hesperia man — was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Center with major injuries, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. He was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing death.
The CHP urged anyone with information about the crash to contact the CHP’s Temecula area office at 951-506-2000.
