Inmate dies at Cois Byrd Detention Center

MURRIETA - An inmate at the Cois Byrd Detention Center was pronounced dead today, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Deputies assigned to the detention center were called to the cell of an unresponsive inmate around 1 a.m. Saturday. Custody staff and jail medical staff, along with Cal-Fire personnel, immediately administered life-saving measures, but were not successful. Authorities said there were no signs of foul play. The identity of the inmate was not released, pending notification of next of kin. The sheriff's department has launched an investigation into the death, and the cause of the death will be determined by the Riverside County coroner's office.
