EAST HEMET – A blaze broke out today in an East Hemet home causing significant damage, displacing the occupants, who were not injured.

The fire was reported at about 3:50 p.m. in the 41000 block of East Stetson Avenue, near Cornell Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine crews from the county and Hemet Fire Department were sent to the location and encountered smoke and flame inside the single-story house.
Firefighters deployed around the residence and quickly gained the upper hand, containing the blaze to the structure, according to reports from the scene.

Stetson was shut down between Cornell and Dartmouth Street because of the operation.

The fire was completely knocked down by 4:30 p.m.

The two occupants of the residence were displaced, and Red Cross personnel were requested to assist them with finding temporary alternate lodgings.
