LAKE ELSINORE – Lake Elsinore City Councilmember Tim Sheridan will run for Congress in California’s 41st District.

“I’m running for Congress because we need a new representative who will serve the people of our communities and not the special interests in Washington,” Sheridan said. “As I have done as a Lake Elsinore City Council member, I will be an active participant in the community, including holding regular town hall meetings in every city and community in California’s 41st District.”

Sheridan also said that the current holder of the seat, 16-term incumbent Ken Calvert, never does town hall meetings or attends community events.

“Ken Calvert is an absentee representative, who only shows up at election time,” Sheridan said. “We can do better. We have to do better.”

Sheridan also criticized Calvert’s voting record in Congress calling it “abysmal.” Calvert voted against the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 despite the fact that it provided $15 million to Lake Elsinore, $29 million to Calvert’s home city of Corona, $9.9 million to Palm Desert and $10.8 million to Palm Springs so that these communities could enhance infrastructure and make other improvements for residents.

“Mr. Calvert also voted against implementing a $35 monthly limit on insulin for Medicare beneficiaries,” Sheridan said. “Mr. Calvert’s 30 years in Washington have benefited special interests instead of the people he is charged with representing. For example, he voted against the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to address mass shootings in our country, even though the bipartisan legislation has strong public support.”

Sheridan also expressed dismay that Calvert voted against the bipartisan Chips and Science Act designed to ensure that the United States can remain competitive with China, as well as the Electoral Count Reform Act.

“Why would anyone vote against taking a stand against unfair Chinese competition and unfair elections?” he said.

Sheridan also pledged to make himself available to meet with constituents one-on-one after he is elected and to only serve for 10 years ·in Congress.

“There are many qualified individuals in our communities who will bring fresh ideas in the future,” Sheridan said. “The idea that we elect an individual who then serves 30-plus years goes against what our Founding Fathers intended. I will honor their view of how the House of Representatives should operate.”

Councilmember Tim Sheridan was first elected to the Lake Elsinore City Council in 2018 and reelected in 2022. He ran against Ken Calvert for Congress in both 2014 and 2016 in California’s 42nd District.
