MURRIETAÂ – A 33-year-old woman was killed when her car slammed into a traffic signal pole at a Murrieta intersection and erupted into flames, authorities said today.
Christina Gibson of Winchester was fatally injured about 11 a.m. Sunday on Clinton Keith and Menifee roads, according to the Murrieta Police Department.
Agency spokeswoman Dominique Samario said Gibson was traveling at an unconfirmed speed along eastbound Clinton Keith when she apparently lost control and plowed into the traffic light pole.
“The vehicle became fully engulfed in flames,” Samario said.
Murrieta Fire & Rescue crews reached the location within minutes and extinguished the blaze.
Gibson, the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. “The collision is still under investigation, and the cause has not been determined,” Samario said. “It is not believed any other vehicles were involved.”
Anyone with information was asked to contact the police department’s Traffic Bureau at 951-461-6323.
