Felons suspected in burglary spree around Hemet golf resort

HEMET – Charges are expected to be filed Monday against two convicted felons suspected of breaking into multiple homes surrounding a Hemet golf resort and threatening the occupants.
Andre David Johnson, 32, of Hemet, and Todd Anthony Thornton Jr., 27, of San Jacinto were arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside Thursday on suspicion of home invasion robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, false imprisonment, attempted burglary and making criminal threats.
Both suspects are being held without bail.
The case is under review by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
According to the Hemet Police Department, the pair allegedly engaged in a burglary spree on Monday centered in the Seven Hills Golf Resort, on the south side of the city, near Diamond Valley Lake.
Investigators said that multiple properties were targeted, and the suspects allegedly threatened several victims with weapons, though no one was injured.
Patrol officers responding to 911 calls searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects, police said.
According to authorities, Thornton was allegedly caught in the act of trying to burglarize another property on Plumrose Street and was taken into custody without incident in the predawn hours Thursday.
Johnson was identified hours later as the second party allegedly involved in the break-ins and was arrested without a struggle by county Gang Impact Team investigators in Temecula.
Jail records indicate both men are on mandatory supervision, but details on their prior convictions weren’t available.
