Swimming areas of Lake Hemet to remain closed to near toxic algae growths

Swimming has been discontinued in Lake Hemet through September to avoid any potential exposure to toxic algae, but a free onshore "water zone" has been opened at the water district concessionaire's campground, according to a Facebook post. It was reported that the most recent water tests are near the toxic blue-green algae warning. With the tests, the Lake Hemet authorities see closing the lake’s swim area in the best interest of the public and may keep the prohibition through the predicted hot summer months. The Lake Hemet Concessionaire reported putting together a “Water Zone” inside the campground where guests of all ages, free, can enjoy themselves with inflatable water slides, splash pads, water tables and squirt guns to cool off together.
