IDs released in Fatal Temecula I-15 Crash: CHP

A tragic two-vehicle accident occurred Tuesday morning on Interstate 15 in Temecula. According to a preliminary report from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), one driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died after being ejected from his vehicle. The other driver is currently in custody on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), according to the CHP.The incident happened around 6:18 a.m. Brian David Ortiz Jr., 19, of Temecula, was traveling north at approximately 70 mph in the freeway's #1 lane near the state Route 79/Temecula Parkway exit. Ortiz swerved his Toyota Camry to avoid a block of wood on the road but ended up rear-ending a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.The collision caused the Tacoma to spin and overturn in the center median.
