A Temecula woman remains hospitalized with serious head injuries after she and her husband were struck by a hit-and-run driver Sunday night while walking their dogs, her husband said in a social media post. The driver, in an older model black Chevrolet Suburban, did not stop after hitting the couple and sped away from the scene.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. as the couple crossed Temecula Parkway near a golf course and waterfall landmark, according to the post. They were in a marked crosswalk with the walk signal when the SUV “came from behind us turning right,” the woman’s husband, Eric, wrote in describing the moment. “The Suburban hit my wife first and then me and our two dogs, and then sped off toward the Vail Ranch Headquarters area,” he wrote.
Identified as Sally in the post, the woman suffered a skull fracture and bleeding in her brain and was being treated in the intensive care unit, her husband wrote. He said she was kept in the ICU overnight due to the severity of her head injury.
By the next day, Sally’s condition had stabilized. “As of this evening Sally’s MRIs and CT don’t show any new fractures… Her brain bleeding is stabilized,” her husband wrote in an update. Doctors removed her cervical collar and planned to allow her to eat solid food Monday night as she showed signs of improvement, according to the post. “She remains in the ICU for now, but the miracles keep coming,” he added, thanking supporters for their outpouring of support.
The couple’s two dogs were also hit in the collision. One of them, a small blond dog named Ozzie, ran off in the chaos and was initially missing. In an update the next morning, Sally’s husband reported that Ozzie had made it home on his own and was found safe by neighbors who returned the dog to the family.
Authorities have been notified of the hit-and-run. The post urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the black Suburban to contact Temecula police.
