FALLBROOK, Calif. —
A motorist was rescued Monday night after their vehicle veered off Interstate 15 and plummeted approximately 70 feet down an embankment near Rainbow Valley Boulevard.
The incident was reported at approximately 9:56 p.m. on northbound I-15, south of Rainbow Valley Boulevard. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) logs, a gray sedan reportedly crossed from the left lane to the right shoulder before striking a tree and descending the steep terrain.
Emergency responders from North County Fire and the CHP arrived on the scene to find the vehicle roughly 70 feet down the slope. Family members of the driver alerted authorities after receiving automated crash notifications from the driver’s iPhone and Life360 application, stating the vehicle was not moving.
Fire crews made contact with the occupant and assisted them in walking back up the embankment to the roadway by approximately 10:13 p.m. An ambulance arrived on the scene, though the driver’s condition remains unverified. In accordance with privacy and reporting protocols regarding ongoing incidents, the motorist is considered to have injuries of unknown severity.
A tow truck equipped with 70 feet of cable was dispatched to retrieve the vehicle from the canyon. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
