A Temecula cat named Butters has reached the Quarterfinals of his group in the nationwide America’s Favorite Pet contest, where one dog owner and one cat owner has a chance to win a spread in either Modern Cat or Modern Dog magazine and the title of 2026 America’s Favorite Pet.
Butters, a flame point Siamese, is described by his owner Robyn Hargrove as charming, playful and fiercely loyal, with a protective personality and a strong attachment to his human. Known for his striking blue eyes and distinctive flame-colored coat, the cat has already captured attention in the competition, where public votes help determine which pet advances toward the grand prize and a potential magazine feature.
According to his contest profile, Butters has a playful streak and a knack for mischief, including opening cupboards and rearranging household items. He also insists on sleeping on his owner’s chest and has a habit of bringing home “prey” as gifts — a trait that adds to his bold and expressive personality. His favorite treats are Surfer’s Delight cat treats, while his favorite toy is a simple stick found outdoors.

The America’s Favorite Pet competition allows the public to vote for participants online, with voting helping determine who moves forward in the contest rounds. Supporters can cast a free vote or make a donation that translates into additional votes, with proceeds benefiting animal welfare efforts.
Community members who want to support the Temecula cat can visit Butters’ official contest page at:

As the contest progresses, Butters’ supporters are encouraged to continue voting and sharing his story in hopes that the local feline can claim the title of America’s Favorite Pet.
Butter’s group Quarterfinals ends on Feb. 26 and voting will determine the top 1 Quarterfinalist from each group. That winner will advance to the Semifinals, which begins Feb. 27 and ends March 5. Votes get reset at each round, with public voting allowed daily.
The competition is operated by Colossal.org for DTCare, a nationally registered public charity, which will grant donations to the PAWS Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that rehabilitates orphaned and injured wildlife, shelters and adopts homeless cats and dogs, and educates the community to inspire compassionate action for animals so they can “go home and thrive.”
