Peters named WNMU softball player of the week

Jenna Peters, who was raised in Lake Elsinore and played high school softball for Temescal Canyon High School, is now a senior at Western New Mexico University. She was selected as the Mustangs’ softball player of the week for February 9-15. The Mustangs played two games that week, both as part of a February 15 doubleheader at home against the University of Texas, Dallas. Peters had four hits in seven at-bats, scored twice, and drove in three runs including two with a home run. Western New Mexico swept both games. The mercy rule called the first game after 4 1/2 innings. Peters doubled to left field in the third inning to score Jaydn Hooten and later scored on Lauryn Carbajal’s double to center field. The final two runs of the 11‑2 WNMU victory were scored on Peters’ second home
