Small Exterior Fire Extinguished by Resident at Hemet Home

A small fire that broke out outside a residence in the 200 block of Buena Vista Street was quickly extinguished by a resident Thursday night, prompting a scaled-back response from the Hemet Fire Department.

Fire crews were initially dispatched to reports of a residential structure fire at approximately 8:28 p.m. on March 26. Upon arriving at the scene, a responding battalion chief determined the blaze was a small exterior fire located at the rear of the property, adjacent to the home.

Because a resident had already managed to extinguish the flames prior to the fire department’s intervention, the battalion chief canceled the majority of the incoming emergency response. Personnel from Engine 1 and Squad 1 were kept at the location to secure the scene, verify the fire was completely out, and begin assessing the property.

The Hemet Fire Department is currently investigating the official cause of the fire. At this time, details regarding any occupants with unknown injuries have not been released by officials. Crews cleared the scene later Thursday evening.
