UPDATE (7P.M.) The Springs Fire is now 10% contained and has burned 4,176 acres, according to CalFire.

According to Valley News reporters on scene, it appears the forward progress has been stopped.

The vegetation fire dubbed the Springs Fire prompted evacuations and warnings today, Friday, April 3, as firefighters worked to contain flames burning in brush and grass.

The fire was reported earlier in the day and quickly drew a multi-agency response. Ground and air resources were deployed to slow the rate of spread and protect nearby structures, officials said. Numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the state are flying fire suppression missions as conditions allow.

Fire officials reported the following resources assigned to the incident: 36 engines, two water tenders, two helicopters, two dozers, seven hand crews and 10 additional support units, for a total of approximately 260 personnel.

Cooperating agencies include Hemet City Fire Department, Riverside City Fire Department, Pechanga Fire Department, Morongo Fire Department, Palm Springs Fire Department, Idyllwild Fire Department and Corona Fire Department.

Evacuation Orders — indicating an immediate threat to life and requiring residents to leave immediately — have been issued for the following zones:
MOE-0507, MOE-0641, MOE-0744, MOE-0745, MOE-0746, MOE-0747, RVC-0825, MOE-0823.

Updated Evacuation ORDERS issued for MOE-0823. East of Lasselle St. between Rancho Verde High School and Colt Way.

Evacuation Warnings — signaling a potential threat and advising residents to be prepared to evacuate — have been issued for:
 MOE-0506, MOE-0633, MOE-0638, MOE-0639, MOE-0743, MOE-0822, MOE-0823.

“Some residents along Kentucky Derby St. were panicking to evacuate,” according to Valley News reporters on scene. Many were not aware of what Genasys Protect was. Evacuation orders and warnings were issued due to the immediate and potential threat to life and property. Under CAL FIRE’s alert system, evacuation orders require residents to leave immediately, while warnings indicate conditions may worsen and residents should be ready to evacuate.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No immediate reports of injuries or structural damage were available as of Friday afternoon.

Fire crews continued working to strengthen containment lines and monitor fire behavior as conditions evolve. Officials noted that evacuation statuses may change rapidly depending on weather, terrain and fire activity.
