The Golden Bears continued their impressive run last Friday, defeating Murrieta Mesa 8-2 in a Southwestern League matchup. The Golden Bears, now 14-4 overall and 6-0 in league play, have made a habit of winning big, with seven victories this season coming by six or more runs.

Pitcher Mateo Mendoza was once again a key contributor, tossing two innings without allowing a hit or an earned run. Mendoza has been a model of consistency, extending his streak to six consecutive appearances without surrendering an earned run.

At the plate, Will Bandel led the charge, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a stolen base, and a run scored. Eric Shim also made his presence felt, recording his first stolen base of the season while contributing two hits and two RBIs.

The win marked Temecula Valley’s ninth straight home victory, a streak dating back to last season. Over that span, the Golden Bears have averaged nearly eight runs per game, a testament to their offensive firepower. Their latest triumph also extended Murrieta Mesa’s losing streak to three games, dropping the Rams to 10-9 overall and 2-4 in league play.

Meanwhile, Great Oak edged out Chaparral 4-3 in a tightly contested game on Friday. Wes Shanabarger was the standout performer for the Wolfpack, delivering both on the mound and at the plate. He pitched two innings without allowing an earned run or a hit and went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Shanabarger’s two doubles set a new career high, and he was supported by a balanced offensive effort that saw six Great Oak players record hits.

The Wolfpack improved to 11-6-1 overall and 4-1-1 in league play, keeping pace with Temecula Valley at the top of the standings. Chaparral, on the other hand, fell to 9-10 overall and remains winless in league play at 0-6.

Looking ahead, Temecula Valley and Great Oak are set to clash on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in a game that could have significant implications for the league standings. The two teams have split their last 10 meetings, but the Golden Bears will look to defend their home field and extend their winning streak to four games. Great Oak, riding a five-game winning streak of their own, will aim to close the gap in the standings.

Elsewhere in the league, Murrieta Mesa will face Vista Murrieta on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., while Chaparral takes on Murrieta Valley. The Southwestern League teams will also converge at the Diamond in Lake Elsinore later this week for a series of games, including a night matchup between Temecula Valley and Vista Murrieta.

As the league race heats up, Temecula Valley appears poised to make a run at the title. With their potent offense and reliable pitching, the Golden Bears have the tools to remain undefeated in league play. However, with strong competition from Great Oak and Vista Murrieta, the path to the championship is far from guaranteed.
