The American Water Works Association has a Hydrant Hysteria competition in which two-person teams assemble a fire hydrant. The AWWA has sections including the California-Nevada Section, and at the 2026 section conference, April 6-9 in San Diego, the Valve Vixens from the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District won the women’s Hydrant Hysteria competition April 8.The teams are allowed two runs with the faster assembly being used as the scored time. The Valve Vixens team of Patricia Castellanos and Megan Mitchell had the winning time of 1:48.32.
