Hemet City Council approves additional fire department turnout equipment

The Hemet City Council approved additional turnout equipment for the city’s fire department.The city council’s 4-0 vote May 12, with Tom Lodge absent, approved an increase to the existing purchase order with Allstar Fire Equipment. Although the additional amount is for $31,447.24, purchases exceeding $50,000 with a single vendor within a fiscal year require city council approval and the authorization amended the purchase order to allow up to $81,500 of overall expenditures with Allstar Fire Equipment.Turnout gear is subject to regular wear and tear and must be replaced periodically to maintain compliance with safety standards and manufacturer specifications. “They get too contaminated over time,” said fire chief Cameron Phillips.The fire department has an ongoing equipm
