Lifekind Foundation’s Thanksgiving Drive fills up in California and opens in Arizona for the first time
HEMET–The Lifekind Foundation will help more than 1,200 families go home with Thanksgiving dinner this November, on three Saturdays in Southern California and Arizona. Each family receives a $50 grocery card for the turkey of their choice and a box with every traditional side, from stuffing and potatoes to cranberry sauce, rolls and dessert.
The drive’s California sites filled weeks ahead of time.
“Our California sites filled weeks ago, and our neighbors answered right away. Every $100 that comes in sets one more family’s table, and we have already moved 50 Victorville families off the waitlist. We want to keep going,” said Samantha Moritz, President of the Lifekind Foundation.
Pickup dates and locations
- Saturday, November 7: Hemet, CA. Community Christian Church, 41762 Stetson Ave. 500 families (full, with a waitlist).
Each site runs on volunteers. Crews build and pack boxes on the Thursday and Friday before each Saturday, then hand them out at a drive-through car line. The drive has more than 350 volunteer shifts to fill across the three sites. Teens 14 and up can volunteer and earn service hours.
Last year’s drive served 1,001 families in Southern California.
