Hemet Station sheriff deputies were dispatched to the area of Bautista Road and Old Cary Road in Anza following an accidental shooting Monday, Aug. 24, at 12:40 a.m.

When deputies arrived, they located an adult male who died of his injuries.

According to a witness, the accident allegedly happened at a different location where they said there was no cellphone reception, so a man and the victim drove toward help and met first responders just off the roadway in the 37000 block of Bautista Canyon Road.

“I saw the lights of several police and fire department vehicles in front of our property in the middle of the night and my first thought was either an accident or a brush fire, so I went down to the road to find out. What I was not expecting was the man lying next to the white truck being given CPR by the first responders,” a witness said.

The name of the deceased was not released pending notification of next of kin.

“At this time, we have not received any updates on this investigation. This is an open and active investigation,” Cpl. Lionel Murphy with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies urged the public to contact the Hemet Sheriff’s Station non-emergency line at 951-776-1099, if they have any information about this case.
