The Temecula Valley Historical Society welcomes the public to attend a presentation at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 23 by Ron Fink, a retired Navy Corpsman from the Vietnam era. “Doc Fink” will give a realistic picture of what he and the other members of the “Walking Dead” battalion endured during their service.
Rod Fink was a Fleet Marine Force Navy Corpsman attached to the 1st Battalion 9th Marines in Vietnam in 1967-68. His battalion was involved in major operations and battles along the DMZ, including Con Thien, Gio Linh, The Rockpile, and the 77-day Siege of Khe Sanh.
After Vietnam, he struggled with PTSD and in 2008 nearly died from cancer caused by Agent Orange. He is currently involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Temecula and the Marine Corps League in Wildomar. Doc Fink is also on the board of directors of the First Battalion Ninth Marines Association. He currently serves as their historian, collecting the stories of the Marines and Corpsmen of his battalion, known as “The Walking Dead.”
There is no fee for this presentation. Seating will be available at 5:30 p.m.
Any questions regarding this presentation may be directed to Rebecca Farnbach at info@temeculahistory.org or to Rod Fink at 951-699-7819.
