Joe Rogan influences President Trump’s push to expand psychedelics treatment research
President Donald Trump on April 18 signed an executive order aimed at speeding research, review and potential access to psychedelic-based treatments like ibogaine, for severe mental illness, depression, PTSD and substance-use disorders, with a particular focus on military veterans.The issue came to his attention after podcaster Joe Rogan contacted him to urge action. Rogan said he became familiar with the potential of these treatments after hosting several guests on his podcast who reported significant improvement after one or two doses.During the signing, scientists, physicians and veterans described experiencing substantial benefits from a single dose, while noting that existing medications are effective for only about 20% to 30% of patients.
