MURRIETA — The community is invited to participate in a special Haircut-A-Thon Fundraiser on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at LuvLiez Salon, 40557 California Oaks Road, Suite H2, Murrieta, CA 92562.
The event combines community service, child-safety education, and fundraising to support local children of incarcerated parents. As part of the event, children will have the opportunity to receive a personal child identification kit containing important information such as their fingerprints, height, and current photograph. The kit is modeled after the McGruff Take A Bite Out of Crime ID Kit and is designed to help families maintain essential identifying information in one easily accessible location should it ever be needed by authorities.
The event will also provide parents and caregivers with free McGruff Crime Dog National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) parenting tips in both English and Spanish. The resources address important topics including alcohol and tobacco, drugs, bullying, violent media, and home and neighborhood safety. Crime prevention coloring books will also be available while supplies last.
Affordable Haircuts and family entertainment during the Haircut-A-Thon. First-time customers can receive haircuts for:
- Adults: $25
- Children age 10 and under: $16
Guests can enjoy music and participate in random prize giveaways throughout the afternoon.
The fundraiser is made possible through the generous support of Ron Umali, U.S. Navy Master Chief (Retired), Century 21 Masters; LuvLiez Salon; and participating hairstylists and barbers, who are donating their time and services.
All proceeds from the haircuts will benefit children of incarcerated parents by helping provide new clothing and entertainment gifts during the Christmas season.
Christmas Toy and Clothing Collection
The Haircut-A-Thon will also serve as a collection site for new clothing and unopened toys for local children of incarcerated parents, ages 1–18, who may be at greater risk of experiencing poverty. Donated items will be distributed as Christmas gifts on behalf of incarcerated parents for the children to know they are loved and valued. The Community Outreach Ministry’s 26th Annual Angel Tree Christmas Party is scheduled for Saturday, December 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Gateway Church of the Nazarene, 23560 Jefferson Avenue, Murrieta, CA 92562.
Community Outreach Ministry accepts referrals through Angel Tree, a program of Prison Fellowship; Riverside 211; and local schools and churches.
Supporting Children and Breaking the Cycle
National research highlights the significant number of children affected by parental incarceration. According to research cited from The Sentencing Project and the Annie E. Casey Foundation, more than five million children in the United States—approximately one in 14—have experienced parental incarceration at some point. On any given day, approximately 2.7 million children have a parent who is incarcerated.
Community Outreach Ministry’s mission is to help break the cycle of incarceration among children of incarcerated parents while empowering at-promise youth to develop a winning attitude and champion spirit. The ministry provides opportunities for young people to participate in camping, mentoring programs, and holiday celebrations.
