Temecula begins process to retrofit streetlights

The city of Temecula started the process of retrofitting more than 7,000 streetlights with LED light fixtures in November.Temecula is one of 11 jurisdictions participating in the Western Riverside Council of Governments Regional Streetlight Program.The program was established in 2014 to assist participating jurisdictions in purchasing streetlights from Southern California Edison for LED conversion.Temecula is spending about $7 million to purchase and retrofit the streetlights, according to Pat Thomas, the city’s public works director.That investment is expected to result in an estimated $17 million in energy savings over a period of 20 years, an announcement from the city of Temecula said.The city’s contractor, Siemens Mobility Inc., started the retrofitting process
