Menifee’s appointed Mayor Bill Zimmerman in a packed Pitstop Pub, Tuesday, Jan. 7, announced his intention to run for the mayor’s office in the November elections after serving in the position for last year and a half.Candidates for mayor and other council seats that will open in November can’t formally file until July 13, but Zimmerman and others are announcing their intention to run. They will have until Aug. 7 to formally file.Zimmerman was appointed to the position July 18, 2018, by the city council to fill the unexpired term of Neil Winter who died unexpectedly May 19. Zimmerman previously served on the city’s planning commission and was recognized as the city’s first historian. The appointment allows Zimmerman to serve in the elected position until December.[gal
