Firefighters work to rescue injured hiker stranded near Corona
CORONA (CNS) - A hiker who fell and injured himself today while trekking through the Cleveland National Forest south of Corona was rescued by firefighters.The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, went down about 12:30 p.m. on the Skyline Drive trail, near Tin Mine Canyon, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.The man suffered unspecified moderate injuries and was stranded in the forest, until he and other parties contacted the fire department. Roughly 20 firefighters hiked into the preserve, locating the victim an hour later.Crews initially intended to pull the hiker to safety and carry him out, but the operation proved too difficult, and a battalion chief summoned Cal Fire helicopter 301, based at Hemet-Ryan Airport, to perform a hoist rescue.The chopper c
