Hiker takes fall, suffers head injury near San Jacinto

SAN JACINTO (CNS) - A man fell today while hiking on a hillside northeast of San Jacinto and had to be airlifted out of the canyon for treatment of head trauma.The hiker down call was received about 4:20 p.m. in Massacre Canyon, just off of Gilman Springs Road and Highway 79, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.A battalion chief at the scene said the victim, whose name was not released, took a spill and suffered a head injury, and witnesses summoned help.Firefighters reached the man about 4:50 p.m. and arranged for Cal Fire Helicopter 301 to hoist him aboard the chopper, which then transported him to a staging area below the canyon for retrieval by a Mercy Air helicopter.The patient was expected to be flown to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Vall
