CORONA (CNS) - A wildfire that broke out Monday southeast of Corona burned 97 acres amid stiff winds and was 80% contained on Tuesday morning.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:15 p.m. Monday in the area of Eagle Canyon and Cajalco roads, on the edge of the Corona city limits, less than two miles west of Lake Mathews, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said 22 engine crews and six hand crews from the county, Corona and Riverside Fire Departments, numbering close to 200 personnel, were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a rapid rate toward Eagle Canyon, prompting the California Highway Patrol to shut down the corridor.
Four Cal Fire air tankers were summoned to make runs on the fire, slowing its advance, according to reports from the sc
