California Baptist University baseball opened the 2021 season with a Southern California showdown against Pepperdine University this past weekend. The Waves, who have made 28 NCAA Tournament appearances, were coming off a 12-3 showing last year, which led to them being ranked as high as No. 14 in the NCAA. This series is one of several first-time meetings with several prominent California rivals that highlight the Lancers’ 2021 schedule. CBU hosted the series opener, which saw former Chaparral Puma Trevor Hinkel (redshirt sophomore) start on the mound for the Waves. CBU also hosted the finale at Totman Stadium Sunday, while the Waves hosted the middle game Saturday. Hinkel took the loss for Pepperdine, throwing four innings and giving up two hits, one of which was a first inning home
