MENIFEE – April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and The Menifee Police Department encouraged drivers to give the phone a break and focus on the road. The department will be conducting On April 19 and April 24, the Menifee Police Department will have additional officers on patrol, looking for drivers who are violating the state’s hands-free cellphone law. Under the law, drivers are not allowed to hold a phone or electronic communications device while driving. It included talking, texting or using an app. “Distracted driving is a serious issue, but one that can be easily solved simply by putting the phone down,” Chief Pat Walsh said. “That text, phone call, email or social media post can wait.” A driver cellphone violation is subject to a $157 fine for the firs
