HEMET – A woman struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on a Hemet street was publicly identified today, as the search for the motorist continued.
Lydia Currier, 35, of Hemet was fatally injured about 3:15 a.m. Sunday on Sanderson Avenue, just north of Fruitvale Avenue.
According to Hemet police Sgt. Dan Reinbolt, Currier was in the southbound lanes of Sanderson, either standing or trying to cross, when the driver of a tan sedan plowed into her and kept going.
Patrol officers reached the location within a couple of minutes in response to 911 calls, Reinbolt said.
“Officers performed CPR on the victim, but tragically, she could not be revived,” he said, adding that she was pronounced dead roughly a half-hour later in the emergency room of Hemet Global Medical Center.
The sergeant said witnesses described the motorist as a woman, but no other details were available. The exact make and model of the sedan also were not known.
According to Reinbolt, less than an hour prior to the hit-and-run, a female pedestrian possibly Currier — was seen “jumping into traffic” on Kirby Street, roughly a block east of where Currier was struck, for unknown reasons.
Investigators are gathering security surveillance video from area businesses in the hope images might offer additional clues as to the hit-and-run vehicle, Reinbolt said.
Anyone with information was asked to contact detectives at 951-765-2400.
