When Sean Bowers became the general manager of the San Diego Sockers five years ago, the Murrieta resident set a goal of the Sockers winning the Ron Newman Cup, which is presented to the Major Arena Soccer League champion. Bowers achieved that goal, April 18, when the Sockers completed their 2020-2021 season with a victory over the Ontario Fury in the championship round of the MASL playoffs. “Definitely it’s been a process, that’s for sure,” Bowers said. “It’s all the hard work we’ve done over the last three or four years to try to make it right.” In Bowers’ first three years as the Sockers’ general manager, the team posted regular season records of 14-6, 19-3 and 23-1.
