A patrol sergeant spotted Young going eastbound on Florida Avenue “at approximately 75 mph” and watched as the motorcyclist continued past Santa Fe Street toward Girard Street, Hemet Police Department Sgt. Dan Reinbolt said “The sergeant did not pursue Mr. Young but observed him run the solid red traffic signal at Florida and Girard,” Reinbolt said. “Mr. Young collided with a Chevrolet Cruze that was traveling south on Girard on a green
(light).”
The victim was hurled into lanes. The 26-year-old woman driving the Chevrolet was not injured.
Hemet Fire Department paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and pronounced Young dead at the scene, Reinbolt said.
Florida Avenue was partially closed for six hours while an investigation was conducted, Reinbolt said.
