Summer lightning safety tips
Summer thunderstorms will soon be erupting across the Anza Valley, the result of monsoonal flows that bring high humidity to the area. These sometimes-violent events can bring danger, such as flash flooding and lightning strikes. People are advised of the dangers via texts, radio Public Service Announcements and social media posts.The U.S. Forest Service issues safety advisories before and during these storms. During the summer monsoonal season, firefighters frequently perform reconnaissance flights over the mountains to check for lightning strike fires.The term monsoon refers to the wind shift that typically begins during the first few weeks of July and runs through September. The storms that are the result of this monsoonal flow of moist air typically come up from the south.T
