Man suspected of killing Hemet woman, wounding her friend arrested

HEMET - A 38-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting a woman and seriously wounding her friend in a vehicle-to-vehicle revenge shooting in Hemet was being held without bail today. Brian Kevin Kumpe of Hemet was arrested and booked into Smith Correctional Facility in Banning Monday night on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and shooting at an occupied vehicle. According to Hemet police Lt. Nate Miller, Kumpe allegedly confronted the victims, whose names were withheld, about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of North Elk Street, near Devonshire Avenue. Miller alleged that the suspect was in a dark-colored Chevrolet Tahoe that pulled alongside the women's car and opened fire.
