Raya Salgado wins art award

Sixth grader Raya Salgado has been named one of four winners in the Four Directions NativeAmerican Club’s annual art and writing contest. The club, based at San Jacinto High School, selected the creative winners out of area middle and high schools.Competing against other talented students, the North Mountain Middle School student earned her win with a pair of colorful beadwork earrings.Raya, daughter of Cahuilla Tribal Council Chairman Daniel Salgado, said she made her family very proud.“Congratulations to my Raya Rain for winning the Native American Heritage Month Art and Writing contest for her school.
