HOMELAND (CNS) – A pedestrian was fatally struck yesterday on state Route
74 in Homeland.

The vehicle was speeding when it hit the person around 6 p.m. at Leon
Road, east of the Escondido (215) Freeway, according to the California Highway
Patrol. SR-74 is a tortuous mountain pass west of the Temecula Valley (15)
Freeway, known as Ortega Highway, connecting Orange and Riverside counties, but
becomes relatively straight and flat east of the 215 just beyond Valle Vista,
where it becomes the Pines to Palms Highway and resumes its winding ways out to
Palm Desert.

The pedestrian died at the scene, and there was no immediate
information on the person’s gender or age.
