TEMECULA – Reports of an active shooter have been ruled out while officers have been conducting a safety sweep of the Promenade Mall during the morning hours of Monday, July 17.

Eye witnesses at the mall posted to social media platforms just before 11 a.m. creating a bit of chaos for local law enforcement agencies, who were quick to respond to an area inside the Promenade Mall, near J.C. Penny.

While some witnesses stated they saw a weapon, or weapons, described as a rifle, or rifles, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has gone on record to say there is no active shooter situation going on. Whether the weapons were reported to be of the “air-soft” type, it is still unknown at this time, but that is what the buzz appears to be according to posts on social media.

A press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department will follow shortly.
