A driver was arrested for felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated following a fatal collision on State Route 74 on Thursday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:27 p.m. on September 5, 2024, just west of Ardenwood Way. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Party # 1 was traveling westbound in Vehicle # 1 in the # 2 lane at a speed of 45-50 mph. Meanwhile, Party # 2 was walking westbound on the north shoulder of SR-74, pushing a shopping cart.
As Vehicle # 1 approached from behind, Party # 1 made an unsafe right turn and struck Party # 2. The collision resulted in fatal injuries for Party # 2.
Following the impact, Party # 1 fled the scene and returned to a residence in Lake Elsinore. Physical evidence left at the collision site led CHP investigators to inform the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department (RSO). Deputies subsequently located Party # 1 at her residence and alerted CHP.
Upon their arrival, CHP investigators determined that Party # 1 was driving under the influence. She was arrested and booked into the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center.
