San Diego Zoo welcomes female koala joey and celebrates a century of koala conservation

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Zoo announces the arrival of a new female koala joey and celebrates 100 years of friendship with Taronga Conservation Society Australia. To honor this partnership, Taronga has named the Joey Inala (“in-ah-lah”), which means place of peace or rest and is from the Wakka Wakka / Jungara (“yung-garrah”) area in Queensland, Australia.This year marks 100 years since the first two koalas arrived in San Diego as a gift from the children of Sydney, Australia to the children of San Diego, sparking a century-long commitment to koala care.
