Temecula Valley Historical Society to host presentation on Vail family history and Arizona ranching legacy

The Temecula Valley Historical Society will host a public presentation at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at the Little Temecula History Museum — the red barn located next to Kohl’s in south Temecula. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be served. Guest speaker Gregory Dowell will discuss his extensive research on the Vail Family and the Empire Ranch near Tucson, Arizona, where the family operated before moving cattle into the Temecula Valley. Dowell’s work is based on his master’s thesis and includes three years of research through the Vail/Empire archives at the University of Arizona, as well as additional time spent reviewing legal documents and deeds in Los Angeles archives. His presentation will also explore the history of the Total Wreck silver mine located on Vail
