A reckless driving incident led to a three-vehicle collision, damaged utility infrastructure, and prompted a road closure at the intersection of East Florida Avenue and Laursen Street late Monday afternoon.
Hemet Police Department officials confirmed the crash, which occurred at approximately 4:29 p.m., was not a hit-and-run but was caused by a motorist driving recklessly.
According to initial reports, a black Corvette was seen driving erratically before attempting a lane change and losing control. The sports car struck a Mini Cooper that was stopped at the intersection. The force of the impact pushed the Mini Cooper into a water line and a gas main cage, bringing the vehicle within inches of striking an adjacent building.
After colliding with the Mini Cooper, the Corvette continued on to side-swipe a white Toyota Highlander.
The Hemet Fire Department originally responded to reports of a vehicle possibly crashing into a building. Upon arrival, firefighters located the three damaged vehicles and requested a second American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance to the scene.
The driver of the Mini Cooper and a female occupant of the Toyota Highlander were transported from the scene by ambulance with unknown injuries. The driver of the black Corvette reported leg pain and was transported by a private vehicle with injuries of unknown severity.
