A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Friday night following a vehicle rollover crash on Simpson Road that sent a second driver to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.
Hemet Police and Hemet Fire departments responded to the incident at 8:57 p.m. on Simpson Road, just east of Warren Road, after receiving reports of a rollover with a person trapped inside a vehicle. Hemet Fire Truck 4 arrived at the scene and immediately requested assistance from Squad 4 and an additional American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance.
The trapped occupant was ultimately able to self-extricate from the vehicle, prompting fire officials to cancel the second AMR unit.
During the investigation at the scene, Hemet Police officers administered a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer to one of the drivers. That individual was subsequently taken into custody for possible DUI. The second driver involved in the crash was transported by AMR for further medical treatment and evaluation with injuries of unknown severity.
Authorities closed the westbound lanes of Simpson Road between Warren Road and California Avenue while first responders cleared the scene and conducted their preliminary investigation.
The Hemet Police Department is continuing to investigate the exact cause of the crash. No further details have been released at this time.
