Two people were hospitalized and a third person was arrested after a rollover crash Saturday evening, July 12, on Florida Avenue in Hemet, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of West Florida Avenue, west of Denny’s.
Hemet Fire Department crews responded to the scene after a red Kia overturned in a collision with a silver Chevrolet. Hemet police officers removed the occupants from the overturned vehicle before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters found the Kia resting on its roof, while the Chevrolet sustained damage to the driver’s side rear, according to officials.
Two people were transported by American Medical Response ambulances to a local hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available.
A third occupant was arrested after officers reportedly discovered a firearm inside the overturned Kia. Authorities have not released the person’s identity or the charges.
The collision prompted the closure of westbound Florida Avenue at Kirby Street, while eastbound traffic was detoured just east of El Pollo Loco during the investigation. The roadway has since reopened.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
