Andrew Schmitz won a Barona Speedway main event for the first time in five years on September 12 when he finished first in the Sport Compacts feature.“It’s been a while since the last time I won here,” Schmitz said.Although he has since won main events at other tracks, Schmitz’s previous win at Barona was in the June 26, 2021, Sport Compacts main event. Schmitz was raised in Hemet and graduated from Hemet High School in 2006. He was 16 when he began drag racing.
