In 1954, the City of Hemet vacated a road easement for Devonshire Avenue between Santa Fe Street and Thompson Street so that the land could be used by the Hemet Unified School District. The closure of Hemet Junior High School and the relocation of West Valley High School eliminated the need for the school district to use that land, and the City of Hemet is now pursuing regaining the road easement.The Hemet City Council voted 5-0 on September 8 to authorize the city manager’s office to pursue a dedication from the school district of Devonshire Avenue from Santa Fe Street to Thompson Street.
