Pico Fire burns 173 acres near Nuevo, reaches 30% containment

NUEVO — A wildfire near Ramona Expressway and Pico Avenue burned 173 acres Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, and was 30% contained as of 7:30 p.m., according to CAL FIRE’s Riverside Unit.

The Pico Fire began in Riverside County and remained active Tuesday evening. Its cause was under investigation.

A total of 149 personnel were assigned to the fire, along with 13 engines, three water tenders, two helicopters and five hand crews, CAL FIRE reported.

Air tankers from throughout the state were flying suppression missions as conditions allowed, according to the agency.
