The entire Butterfield Overland Trail, with portions of it running through Southwest Riverside County including Old Town Temecula and Aguanga, has been named a National Historic Trail and signed into law by President Joe Biden.U.S Sen. John Boozman of Arkansas (R-Ark.) made the announcement and said,”The Butterfield Trail helped facilitate America’s westward expansion and symbolizes the pioneering spirit we still seek to embody. Designating it as a national historic trail will help future generations identify it with our nation’s growth and development.” The idea to make the trail a National Historic Trail had been in the works since 2013.Butterfield Stage Road and Overland Drive are the names of Temecula streets that are perhaps located where the old stagecoach once passed
