Fires in Hemet stopped before reaching homes

HEMET (CNS) - A brush fire that split into two separate blazes today on the west end of Hemet scorched roughly five acres and threatened homes before crews gained the upper hand. The main blaze was reported about 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Devonshire Avenue and Warren Road, just inside the city limits, according to the Hemet Fire Department. Multiple engine crews from the city, as well as the Riverside County Fire Department and Soboba Indian Reservation, were sent to the location and encountered flames spreading quickly through a field on the north side of Devonshire, while a slightly smaller fire that broke off from the primary blaze burned on the south side of the two-lane corridor.
